We are pleased to announce that, starting March, 2006, tandem flying at Fort Funston is allowed for pilots with the proper qualifications and equipment.

Please note: The Fellow Feathers Special Use Permit from the GGNRA specifically states “Commercial activity is not authorized by this Special Use Permit”. Under this permit, commercial tandem instruction at Fort Funston is not allowed. Compensation of any kind may NOT be requested, offered, or accepted for tandem flights.

Notice to all Funston Tandem Instructors: A Non-compensation document must be filled out and placed in the storage locker drop box prior to the tandem flight. Failure to comply will result in no less than revocation of Fort Funston tandem privileges.

The summary is this: our GGNRA Special Use Permit has been modified to allow tandem flights by USHGA Tandem pilots (T-1 and T-3) with Funston flying experience and safe equipment in good condition. We've created a Tandem Administrator position to ensure that everyone and their gear meet the (clearly specified) requirements. All tandem pilots must be checked out by the Tandem Administrator at the beginning of each year before being allowed to fly tandem.

If you want to get approved to fly tandem at the Fort, have a look at the below rules and get in touch with the Fellow Feathers Tandem Administrator (click here.)

We've also created a few rules to ensure that solo pilots aren't crowded out of the air and to see that each tandem pilot gets a turn to fly if there is a line-up.
