We all started somewhere... this was my first "factory made" glider back in 1974, down in the training bowl below Funston. 13 years old, and teaching myself after a two lesson package ($27.50).
This was my first Hang Gliding lesson, down in the training bowl. All Chandelle gliders were blue and gold. I'm the kid with the long blonde hair and the red sweater. January 1974. We all flew "seated"
This shot was captured by Dan Racanelli as I was flying my Harrier I 177 tandem above Westlake. This was in 1981 or so.
Launching my Wills Wing 160 Duck at Funston. 1983 or 84. Right downtube has my vario, left a G meter. Check out the cliff edge stabilization effort. Harness mains were 1/8" stainless steel cables. The flight suit was a gift from Rob Kells. Before there were PG's I was the most color coordinated pilot around.
