A Fellow Feathers Ft Funston Site Guide by Every One!

Postby Chuck » Tue Jun 10, 2014 1:11 pm

We would like to have the great knowledge of the Ft Funston pilots create and contribute to a brand new Site Guide for Fellow feathers.
This guide is just for Ft Funston and is intended to help new pilots as well as advanced pilots.
How about doing it right here on the BBS? We could make some movies to show how it's done and publish them on The Site Guide as well.

We will take the text that's submitted on this BBS group and install it on the website.
This way we can get the primo knowledge of our awsome pilots out to all who want to fly here.
Lets do this! Bring it on! Right here! Right now!

For the sections on the shear, I suggest the following links:

http://rammb.cira.colostate.edu/wmovl/v ... /short.htm

And if someone knows when the shear is going to be good, please let me know.

That 1st link is gold, Darrel. Will study it when dark falls and wings are folded tonight. Nice visuals in the 2nd.

Curious about the 3rd link - is there an alternative address? It wouldn't open to me no matter how many times I knocked on the screen and said "sesame."

Chuck - Smush these nuggets into the master site guide draft. Already smushed 'em into the google docs for my reference.

I'm too inept to create a link which will last for the third reference. It is easy to find by searching coastal convergence and scrolling to the online Wiley library link in case someone can figure out how to create a link. But it's about modeling the flow numerically and may not be helpful This one I'm going to have to grow into...

Chuckling. No worries, Darrel. I am a luddite too.

New gem added to Site Guide draft courtesy of MM -
To figure out which way to land on the beach, watch the seagulls standing by the tide if there are any. They prefer facing into the wind.
If the gulls face every which way, that means there's no wind on the beach so landing into either the north or south is fine.

Chucky - fresh fodder for the master Site Guide draft here - https://docs.google.com/document/d/1_CS ... drive_web#
